Bio

Shao Chen (‘Johanna’) Pan-Carr is currently an International Student Advisor and DSO at New York University's Office of Global Services. Currently, NAFSA Region X Chair-Elect. She has had a broad range of experience in immigration advising, study abroad services, student programming and development. After working for NAFSA in their Training Services department, Johanna and family moved to Shanghai, China where she worked in Student Life for the NYU Shanghai Center, serving U.S. students studying abroad. After relocating back to Region X, Johanna served as Region X New York Downstate Representative in 2015 and 2016. She was also the recipient of the 2016 NAFSA Rising Star Young Leader Award. Currently, she is a member of the NAFSA International Student and Scholar Regulatory Practice (ISS-RP) – International Student Subcommittee, which supports NAFSAns on international student regulatory issues. Johanna has been a member of NAFSA Trainer Corps since 2015 and served as lead trainer and trainer in various F-1 professional development workshops at NAFSA annual and regional conferences. She also was on the curriculum development team for U.S. Visa Entry Process for Students and Scholars workshop for the 2018 NAFSA Annual Conference in Philadelphia. Prior to her current position at NYU, she was a DSO and international student advisor for five years at Fordham University. She has a BA of Economics from the College of William and Mary and a MA in Higher Education Administration from NYU.
